Therefore, we want to reiterate that in the event your child is ill, please keep them home for the protection of our entire school community. We have provided a list of how COVID-19 symptoms may appear below. Additionally, we have included information about the optional covidSHIELD screening and testing available for unvaccinated students and staff.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our school district and each and every one of our learners.
Showing symptoms? Stay Home
(per IDPH exclusion guidance for symptomatic individuals in pre-K and K-12 schools)
- Fever 100.4 or higher
- New onset of moderate to severe headache
- Shortness of breath
- New cough
- Sore throat
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- New loss of sense of taste or smell
- Fatigue from unknown cause
- Muscle or body aches from unknown cause
Medical evaluation and testing are strongly recommended for all persons with COVID-like symptoms.
If a school nurse has determined that your child should go home based on symptoms, please come immediately (within 30 minutes) to pick up your child. Make sure that if you may not be available that you have an emergency contact that is. If you’d like to follow up with the nurse or building administrator please do so over the phone, after picking up your child.
If possible, always have an extra mask available for your child in their book bag which is easily accessible. It’s best to house an extra mask in a separate container or bag.
Optional Screening/Testing
District 142 will provide all unvaccinated students and staff the opportunity to participate in free onsite covidSHIELD weekly saliva screening tests. Only students whose parents opt-in for this free screening/testing will be included in this activity. Consent forms will be provided for families interested in the screening tests both in paper format and can be found on our website at https://4.files.edl.io/6721/08/11/21/213057-d2098325-abae-4ad8-b70e-2a11ada819dd.pdf.
